Adams Land & Cattle, LLC Employee Scholarship Program

$4,000–$1,000 each year for a child/grandchild of employee of ALCC to a 4-year school 

$2,000–$1,000 each year for a child/grandchild of employee at ALCC to a 2-year school 

  • Must be a child/grandchild of an active Adams Land & Cattle, LLC employee, who has worked a minimum of 90 days of employment with the company as of the annual deadline date for the scholarship.  
  • Parent, grandparent or legal guardian must be on the Adams Land & Cattle, LLC payroll when award decisions are made. Stepchildren & legal wards are eligible if they are dependents & claimed on the Adams Land & Cattle, LLC employee's tax return or employee benefits plan.
  • Must be a high school senior who plans to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited college or university, for 2-year or 4-year. (Full-time study is defined as full-time enrollment for the entire upcoming academic year.) 
  • Students must maintain a cumulative 3.0 GPA and submit grades.
  • Employment status is for initial eligibility only and not for ongoing payment of scholarship. 
  • Scholarship will be paid in the second semester. 
  • Student currently enrolled in college are ineligible to apply for the Adams Land & Cattle, LLC Scholarship Program.

Adams Land & Cattle, LLC Scholarship for Mid-Plains Community College—Broken Bow Campus, $1,000 

  • Graduating senior from Custer County high school OR a graduate from a Custer County high school currently attending Mid-Plains Community College - Broken Bow campus.
  • Must attend Mid-Plains Community College—Broken Bow Campus.  
  • Must have a 2.5 High School GPA.
  • Scholarship will be paid the second semester of freshman year.   

Sam and Adaline Bailey Scholarship, $250 

  • Must be a senior at a Custer County high school or a student resident in Custer County and attending a school in a contiguous county. 
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Frank & Marjorie Bartak Memorial Scholarship, $1,000

  • Must be a senior at a Custer County high school. 
  • Must write an essay of approximately 500 words on "Freedom Isn't Free."

Becton-Dickinson Scholarships

(1) $1,000 for Technical Studies

(2) $1,000 for a 4-year degree 

  • For Custer County high school seniors who are children of current B-D (Broken Bow facility) employees.
  • Applicant must have a "C" average or above. 
  • Applicant must demonstrate leadership or significant involvement in school or civic organizations.
  • Two scholarships will be awarded for 4-year degree program. 
  • One scholarship will be awarded for technical degree. 

Margaret Bradley Memorial Scholarship, $1,000 

  • Priority given to a current graduating senior at Sandhills High School, next priority given to a current graduating senior at Thedford High School. 
  • If no qualified applicants from those schools, then must be a graduating senior from a high school in the Custer Public Power District Area. 
  • Field of study: Lineman Program.

Hazelle Jacobsen Headley Cole Scholarship

(2) Two scholarships at $1,000 each 

  • Senior at a Custer County high school. 
  • Student residing in Custer County and attending a school in a contiguous county.
  • GPA of 2.5 and rank in top 30% of class. 
  • Must be planning a career in education. 
  • Two scholarships will be awarded. 

DK Get Going Scholarship, $1,000 

  • Current graduating senior at a Custer County public high school. 
  • Must be a resident of Custer County.
  • Must enroll for full-time, post-secondary attendance at a Nebraska institution. 
  • Available for a 4-year or 2-year school (trade school, community college, or university). 
  • Financial need may be considered.
  • 3.0 GPA required. 

Ann Fox Memorial Scholarship, $1,000

  • Available to any Custer County Student.
  • Student must be active in community activities.
  • Student must be involved in extracurricular activities.
  • Must have a 3.5 GPA.
  • Payable at the end of the 1st semester of college.

Waleta L. Gies Memorial Scholarship, $250 

  • Senior at a Custer County high school. 
  • Student residing in Custer County attending school in a contiguous county. 
  • Field of study: Cosmetology.

Ed Heath Memorial Scholarship, $300

  • Senior Student who attended Tappan Valley District 75 K-8 school OR a college student who is currently enrolled in college.
  • If no student applies, then a child of a parent who attended Tappan Valley District 75 K-8.

Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Broken Bow Lodge #119

(2) Two scholarships at $2,000 each 

  • Seniors students at a Custer County high school. 
  • Student residing in Custer County attending school in a contiguous county. 
  • General studies students. 

KCNI-KBBN Radio Station Scholarship, $500 

  • Field of study: Broadcast Journalism. 
  • Senior student at a Custer County high school. 
  • Student residing in Custer County attending school in a contiguous county.

Mills-Hartman Scholarship, $1,000 

  • Senior at a Custer County high school. 
  • Rank in the top one-third of class. 
  • Active participant in extracurricular activities. 
  • Submit a separate essay describing how the student hopes to impact the future in the chosen field. 
  • Submit a letter of recommendation from professional in chosen field of study. 
  • Field of study: Education, Medicine/Nursing, or Agriculture. 
  • Scholarship will be paid second semester.  

Nic Ostergard Memorial Scholarship, $1,000

  • Applicant must have at least 5 years cumulative involvement in Custer County 4-H.
  • Must have a high school GPA of 2.5 or higher.
  • Scholarship will be paid at the beginning of the recipients 2nd year of chosen program of study. Pending proof of enrollment and attainment of a 2.0 GPA or higher in the previous year.

St. John's Episcopal Church Scholarship, $1,000 

  • Must be a senior at a Custer County high school or a resident of Custer County attending school in a contiguous county. 
  • Grade point average of at least 3.25. 
  • Rank in the top 15-20% of class. 
  • For a 4-year degree program.

St. John's Episcopal Church Scholarship, $500 

  • Must be a senior at a Custer County high school or a resident of Custer County attending school in a contiguous county. 
  • Grade point average of at least 2.0. 
  • For a 2-year degree technical or vocational degree program.

St. John's Episcopal Church Scholarship Mid-Plains, $500 

  • Must be a senior at a Custer County high school or a nontraditional student attending Mid-Plains.  
  • Must attend Mid-Plains to receive the scholarship.

Lucile A. Schmitz Memorial Scholarship, $1,000 

  • Must be a senior at a Custer County high school or a student residing in Custer County attending school in a contiguous county. 
  • Must be entering a 4-year degree program at a Nebraska institution. 
  • Must have a written recommendation from a teacher in the music department or other music instructor. 
  • Field of study: Music.

Capt. Virgil A. and 1st Lt. Donald K. Schwab Memorial Scholarship, $500 

  • Must be a senior at a Custer County high school. 
  • Must write a short essay describing the way you show positive leadership, strength in character, or courage. You may include the example of a time, an experience, or a situation in your essay. 
  • Financial need will be considered. 
  • Preference will be given to an Arnold or Callaway senior; however, all Custer County seniors are encouraged to apply.
  • As brothers and farm boys from Hooper, Nebraska, both Virgil and Donald Schwab entered the military shortly after high school graduation, and just prior to World War II. Virgil, the older, graduated from West Point Military Academy as a Captain in the Army Air Corps, but was killed in action while on a mission during the Pacific Theater. Donald was a First Lieutenant in the 3rd Infantry Division and was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor in 2014 for his actions near Lure, France. Both were men of tremendous strength and courage.

Lorraine E. Still Scholarship, $300 

  • Must be a senior at a Custer County high school or a student residing in Custer County attending school in a contiguous county. 
  • Also available to any Freshman, Sophomore, or Junior currently enrolled in a two- or four-year degree program. 
  • For a two- or four-year degree in Consumer and Family Science, Art Education, or Nursing.

TEAM Physical Therapy Scholarship

(2) Two scholarships at $250 each 

  • Must be a graduating senior from a high school in the following counties: Custer, Dawson, Valley, Loup, Blaine, Garfield, or Greeley. 
  • Applicant may be a student currently enrolled in college and majoring in Physical Therapy. 
  • Must specify in biographical narrative why you want to become a physical therapist. 
  • Must observe at a TEAM Clinic for 10 hours. 
  • Field of study: Pre-Physical Therapy. 
  • GPA: 3.5.
  • Past recipients are eligible for reconsideration upon application. 

Roy & Dot Yanagida Scholarship

(2) Two scholarships at $1,000 each 

  • Must be a graduating senior of a Custer County high school. 
  • Must have been employed at Grocery Kart for at least one full school year. 
  • Applicant must be in good standing with manager of Grocery Kart. 
  • Two scholarships will be awarded.

Richard Zutavern Memorial Scholarship, $2,000 

  • Must be a graduating senior at any Custer County high school. 
  • Preference to a student enrolling in a 2-year school, but not required. 
  • Must be a well-rounded student.
