Callaway Public Schools Receive New Shot Clocks

Beginning this basketball season, Classes C and D schools must have two shot clocks connected to each basket, giving teams 35 seconds to shoot the ball. When the Nebraska School Activities Association (NSAA), handed down the decision to bring the shot-clock to high school basketball, Heath Birkel, Callaway Athletic Director, knew he needed to find additional funding to help with this added financial strain on their Callaway Public Schools.

The Custer County Foundation awarded $6,000 to Callaway Public Schools to help purchase new shot clocks to help accommodate this new rule that will impact the flow of high school basketball games. This is one part of the upgrades happening in the gym this school year. This common area hosts numerous events throughout the year, and updating will allow them to run seamlessly.

The Custer County Foundation awarded $49,600 in grants to 14 Custer County organizations during their 2024 spring cycle. The next opportunity to apply for a grant is in their fall cycle, which ends October 31, 2024.
